MHPA Holds Second Legislative Fly-In on Capitol Hill
WASHINGTON, DC

Medicaid Health Plans of America (MHPA) leadership and executives, government affairs personnel and policy staff from its member health plans met on Capitol Hill to build strategic relationships and discuss industry priorities with federal legislators and their staff. The group meetings, coordinated and scheduled by MHPA staff on behalf of its members, educated members of Congress on the value of Medicaid managed care. They were successful in establishing new relationships with legislators as MHPA members advocated the shared interests of the Medicaid health plan industry.
“Given the fierce competition for legislators’ attention, efforts to increase our visibility on Capitol Hill are paramount,” said Thomas Johnson, MHPA’s president and CEO. “It is a critical time for the Medicaid health plan industry, with both challenges and opportunities that present themselves with implementation of the Affordable Care Act and duals expansion. No one is more qualified than our members to tell the story of the value our industry adds to the lives of lower-income Americans.”
