| Dual Eligible Strategies for Managed Medicaid | ||||

by Truven Health Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) While a small handful of states have used managed care purchasing strategies for long-term services and supports for a number of years, the shift to managed LTSS has grown rapidly, and is expected to grow even more rapidly in 2012. Since LTSS represent a large percentage of total Medicaid spending, this shift represents a major new opportunity for Medicaid Managed Care plans to grow their businesses by effectively addressing the unique needs of these recipients. This webinar will provide an overview of the projected growth in managed LTSS, and highlight selected strategies for how plans can successfully compete in this marketplace. Presenters Brian Burwell is Vice President, Community Living Systems, at Truven Health Analytics. He has worked at Truven and its predecessor companies for more than 27 years. Mr. Burwell’s career has focused on the management and financing of long-term services and supports for frail elders and persons with disabilities. He is a recognized national expert on Medicaid financing of long-term services and supports, and on federal and state spending trends for Medicaid-financed services. As the Director of the Community Living Systems division, Mr. Burwell oversees a professional staff of 19 individuals providing research, consulting, and technical assistance services for federal and state governments, as well as private organizations. Federal customers include the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Administration on Aging. Mr. Burwell recently served as the Project Director of the CMS Dual Eligible Environment Scanning and Data Architecture Project for the CMS Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office, under which he oversaw development of state and national Medicare-Medicaid enrollee profiles, focus groups with Medicare-Medicaid enrollees, and several analyses of Medicare-Medicaid data. He was also recently the Project Director of a study for AARP on Care Management Models in Integrated Care Programs for Dual Eligibles. Paul Saucier, is Director of Integrated Care Systems at Truven Health Analytics. Mr. Saucier specializes in the policy and program design challenges associated with integrating services and financing for persons who are dually eligible for Medicaid and Medicare. He is currently directing a national environmental scan of managed long-term services and supports programs for the CMS Disabled and Elderly Health Programs Group. Recent activities include a range of analytic and support activities to the CMS Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office, development of a CMS-funded on-line tool for states developing managed long-term supports and services programs; CMS-funded site visits to PACE sites to determine barriers to growth of the PACE model; and consultation with the States of Ohio, Maine and Pennsylvania on integrated delivery models.
